Superb project guys.
The screenshots look wonderful.

I'm not sure if you are still looking for info.
I have quite a bit of map info on various French airfields showing Luftwaffe developments.

asheshouse thanks for the kind words and your offer.  We are still researching a couple bases but for the most part we've had some friends help us locate detailed schematics of the Luftwaffe bases.  But will take a quick look at what we need this week and touch base with you.

Many thanks,

Hello to all the flight crews of the 352nd Fighter Group. The continuous updated pictures and information on the Cross Channel Map is what has brought me to your web site. I check it every time on log onto the net.

As a high altitude bomber pilot (axis) This will be a great addition to game. When I look at the pictures my angle is always from the bomb sight of a He111 or the Ju88 and lets not forget the stuka. The airfields are big, noticeable, and for large formation bombing ideal. The Il2 has not been able to grip up many good high altitude bomber crews and this I think is directly related to the hard to find almost impossible airfield targets and not to mention the small map that takes the poor old bomber crew ages to climb to 6,000m and continually being intercepted prior to achieving that altitude. Now we can punch out from the mother land at 6,000m to the target!

For me this type of map has been along time coming. For too long bombers have been easy meat for the fighters.......now at 6,000m and 12-20 He111 inbound to England lets just see how they handle the high altitude warfare!

I congratulate the team on your progress thus far.

Questions:
I've noticed that some of the ground objects are different for example; many of the sheds/hangers have new paint schemes, will these awesome paint textures of the sheds/hangers be available in the download?

Are you re-building the city of England?

Venatore glad you found us, welcome to the home of the 352ndVFG, thanks for the kind words.  We agree that a map this size has been a long time coming as we share your passion for the longer more realistic missions that allow our groups to climb to altitude and form up as we head out.   To answer your questions the newer buildings are created by a very talented individual named LAL_Rone who has made many re-skins for the standard objects available to the IL2 community.  We will continue to upgrade them on our maps as he creates them so yes you will see them in the map.  And yes London is on the maps also so prepare your He111 and JU88's for some action.

Best regards,

I asked over on the SimHQ forum if there will be any new placeable objects. My idea was to be able to position thin lines or patches of low vegetation such as weeds/long grass/brambles/scrub of some sort around the base lines of buildings to hide the join. I've always thought buildings, edges of runways etc could do with some sort of softening vegetation to reduce the effect of them seeming to be sat on top of the ground rather than being bedded into it

As the only existing placeable vegetation seems to be single trees or groups of five, the former being rather unrealistic and the latter all being the same height and colour. I thought some other shrubbery, low hedges or just the grass/undergrowth/weeds slices would enable mission builders to place a greater variety of scenery about the place. You could place them in much the same way as you can with any objects, swivel them around to line up with edges etc. and being only low and not very wide I thought they might not be too difficult to create and wouldn't use up too much power or memory at the same time.

I realise you're up to your ears creating all manner of stuff for this fabulous new map and accept this may not be a priority but knowing nothing at all about the technical problems involved in creating moveable objects, do you think it a good idea and/or a practical proposition?

Biggles welcome to the home of the 352nd.   Wink  IMHO I think that any and all MODS that one can think of or come up with that will improve the sim is a good idea.  Now whether or not it works out usually depends on how much time one wants to put into it.    If you wanted to persue this I can think of 2 options for you.  Go to AAA and read the section on the Dr. Jones converter.  You could take one of those existing shrubs and probably rework it in 3D Studio into some sort of grass patch or flower bed type thing and reimport it into the game using their converter. Or 2 you could create something from scratch following their criteria from the Dr. Jones converter and submit it to them for importation into the sim for you.  All the details you will need are provided over at AAA.

hi i found this in a Book called "Der Adler" it shows a Group of Do 215 on there way to London this was shot over England so you can see the British country.

I'm sry for the rubbish quality but i thought "hey show them this picture maybe it can help" when i see some more i will post it as well.

The text below:
"Eine Kette vom Baumuster Dornier "Do 215" im Anflug auf London. Auch dieses Aufklärerluftbild beweist die vortreffliche Wirkung der Tarnbemalung unserer Flugzeuge. Es ist für ein höher fliegendes Flugzeug schwierig, die Maschinen gegenüber dem Erdboden auszumachen."

S! all ... first timer here.

I thought you guys were making a map that stretched as far as Germany ... is that another map, or was I mistaken ?

Either way, the Channel map looks incredible.

What is the load time when starting a mission on that map ?

We are indeed making a map that encompasses Germany.  But we will finish this map first and then continue to work on the next one(s)
