Hi all, figured we would just go ahead and open up another topic on the introduction of some our our new models.  We have a great 3d modeller working with us now named Champ and he has been kind enough to start putting together several models already for use in our 1940 and 1943-1945 maps.  Here are a few examples below.  Please note these are a wip and some do not have skins on the yet.  The Luftwaffe Hangers and the Machine gun tower are based off of diagrams provided to us from our friend JVM.  The towers base is similar to the Chain Home Radar bottom with wire and wood slats on the top piece.  Champ has provided us a Tower Bridge, Big Ben and an Eiffel tower as well as other prominent monuments or buildings needed.  He has also created custom fitting hangers for the BF-109 and the 110 also based off of diagrams from JVM.  We have many many more in progress we hope to have in soon.  We're looking to create all new industrial targets as well as Subpens, Marshalling Yards, Oil refineries and large train depots so just rolling with this to see where it might take us.

The Bodney Admin Hut is special to us because we received the data on this from one of the original members of the 352ndFG.  Several of us had the opportunity to attend The Gathering of Mustangs & Legends in Columbus Ohio in 2007 where we were privileged to meet and talk with many of the members of the Group.  We were told about this Admin Tower from a wonderful gentleman named Wayne Mark who sat down and told us about what life was like at Bodney airfield.  We're still checking to see if this was solely used at Bodney or if it was used at some of the other stations also.

Best regards,
Booze   Grin

That's correct about Wayne Marks.  He sent us pictures of his billet and admin offices of the 487th, I believe and these are what we are using for the 3D models.

Booze, check out that link I sent you on the100th BG, IIRC there are several of those building types with the tower thingy at Thorpe Abbots, I think one is still standing in those pictures.

Thanks Hook, great find.  Mr. Marks explained to us that as you entered the building there was a small set of stairs immediately to the left that went up to the tower.  The Admin Officier for each Squadron would watch the return of their flight from this tower and take a head count.  A little further down on the left was the Admin Officers office.  Must be the bump out we see there on the corner.  And in the back, the area was used as their Ready Room for missions briefings.  Deacon can you confirm this?  I've been shot up by Pers so many times my memory is a bit rattled.  Smiley

Communal area and enlisted mans mess.....from the 100th "Communal Site #1. The Enlisted Mess is just above the tennis court (didn’t know about that!) and the Sergeants Mess is at the top of the photo. The Sergeants Mess has what appears to be a Projection Extension on it, so I would guess it was used for showing movies. Just speculation at this point. In the upper left of the photo is the end of the Standby Generator building. At the lower left is a building identified on the airfield plans as the “Grocery and Produce Store”. It still exists and is referred to by the Museum staff as the Red Cross building. I wonder if that has been confused with the “Red Cross Aero Club” which shows up in another photo.... Hope that helps...............

Booze, you're right about what was where from our conversation with Mr. Marks.   But he also mentioned and this can be seen in one of the photos, that the building with the tower was an "L" shape with the smaller portion of the "L" as the ready room for the mission briefings.

Ok, like what's the "tower" for?  If I were the King, i'd say it was a mite on the smallish side to keep the Lady Anne and other less notables.

Its not like its on the flight line.  What could people possible see from up there - and why?  Besides, there ain't enough room up there to turn around on yourself!

Thanks Deacon you're right I remember him stating that now.  And Oscar that was another thing he mentioned, the stair case was only large enough for one person.

If I remember correctly, it [the tower] was used for hanging/rigging parachutes.
